First of all, any Steve keynote is one of the greatest things in apple fanboyism. Is the one day were everything stops so that we can see SJ say "Boom" more than a couple of times, and today was no exception, starting with Time Capsule to the gorgeous and super thin/small MacBook Air.
Steve started ok, Time capsule is not something I would use, but hey people pay a lot of money for anything white made by Apple. Then came the iPhone updates and I got static over lyrics and home customization features (even though I can do both with my jailbroken Touch, they're kind of buggy and the lyrics have to be downloaded in real time through wifi).
So I was excited until I saw what they were doing for the touch... Yes they're adding the same features but... You have to pay 20 friggin dollars and that is not everything, the updates that come with the "premium" include stocks, notes, weather, maps and mail, the SAME apps that are in the iPhone, so it's definitely not a premium for developing new software.
Mr. Steve I don't have to like you right now, you have betrayed early adopters (once again) the ones that get you your first sales numbers, those who bought the iPod touch blindly (I pre-ordered the same day it was announced). You updated the iPhone, the apple TV and it was all for free, where does that leave iPod Touch owners?
In other things to rant about, I was expecting new pricing/updates to the macbooks but it never came, instead we got a super thin lappie, it is gorgeous don't get me wrong, it is just something that does not work for me, I would get it if I would only use it for internet and light stuff, but for a graphic designer with a thousand USB periferals, it just does not do it.
About the rentals: this was the one thing I really liked, because sometimes I feel like watching a movie and I don't feel like paying for a subscription, waiting months for the public library, or going to buy it. So yes I'll be spending my $20 iPod Touch update money to rent me some movies.

P.S. Steve I want a new "normal" lappie, lighter than the present macbook pro with the touch capabilities of the MacBook Air. Thanks in advance
Celia

Obviously you thought the Touch was worth the money you paid for it.
If you don't think the extra features are worth twenty bucks don't buy 'em.
I bought it because in his keynote steve also said that he would be updating it, and that's what always happens, I want it to be better not the underdog because I had to pay $20.
The new Touches will come with these new programs at no extra costs, why do I have to pay?
This programs were already in the iphone so there was no reason why iPod touch users did not think they would be later incorporated to the touch. I have all 5 apps released today, so I could care less, but what I really want is lyrics and the home customization.
So if you don't have a touch and you are hating without knowing, don't say anything.
Apple is clearly sticking it to the early adopters with this $20.00 USD update. You hit the nail on the head; the fact that these apps come on the new iPod Touch models means that Apple is punishing everyone who purchased it early-on.
It's equally ridiculous that so many people are debating returning their Touch just to buy a new one for the same price that includes the applications. I have three friends planning on doing that within the week.
There is simply no excuse for this, Apple either has to make everyone pay for the update, or give it away for free, plain & simple.
And I don't for a second buy the Sarbanes-Oxley accounting excuse, that was BS then and it's BS now. If the iPhone & AppleTV updates are free, so should this.
Frankly, I think it will be hacked. The 1.1.3 update includes the applications, the $20.00 update is merely some unlocking code, it's less than 9 kilobytes in size. Once someone figures out how to do that, you're set.
@Mike: I hope that this is hacked, it makes no sense and with Gizmodo now saying that it's worth it a lot of people will follow... I really really want apple to take it back, so that I can go back to love it, but as of now we're not in good terms.
If a lot of people pay they will get greedy and charge for future updates, if this is the january update, february, march and the rest of the months are not that far away...
